Local Priorities Cycle Theft Update

Dear Resident

Thank you for taking the local priority survey recently, your ongoing feedback about local issues of concern is vital in order to enable us to target resources effectively. Although you did not raise bike/cycle theft as a concern in your last feedback, this issue has been raised by other members of your local area so we thought you would also like to receive this update.

Officers have worked alongside the Local Authority and Housing Managers to secure the address linked to bicycle theft and anti-social behaviour. This has been an ongoing concern for residents and with work from the local team, the wider Metropolitan Police Service and Hackney Council, the investigation, intelligence and actions taken have not only prevented unlawful use of an address within the ward, but has also safeguarded a vulnerable elderly lady who was living in bad conditions. While boarding up the property, officers investigated many bicycles, e-bikes and e-scooters found within the property and have attempted to contact the rightful owners.

Should you see any suspicious activity or attempts to enter the boarded up property, please call 999 for an immediate response.

If you have your bike stolen, please report it as soon as possible. Delays in reporting can make it harder for us to investigate and recover stolen property.  If you have a bike, you can help keep it safe by following our ten ways to protect your bike. The most important thing to remember is to double lock your bike and register the frame number.  If you ever experience this issue or have information regarding an incident, please report it using our online reporting tools at https://www.met.police.uk/, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online web chat or call the non-emergency number 101.
